Uplifting drawings by Montgomery County PA, children are thanking citizens for registering and voting in November. Vibrant drawings of suns with the bold tagline “MONTCO VOTES!” are made into stickers to wear for a unique nonpartisan “get-out-the-vote” campaign by local nonprofit Fresh Artists. Kids 5 through 17 years old surely can’t vote … but their little “one-slide slide shows” attract a ton of attention and broadcast the importance of voting while launching community conversations on citizenship! All public schools in Montco were invited to participate in the Fresh Artists Justice Project art-making challenge to submit work to be considered for installation in the new 325,000 sf addition to the Montgomery County PA Courthouse in Norristown. The new Justice Center is scheduled for completion at the end of summer 2025.
759 K-12 Montco children submitted artwork in the “My Time to Shine” category, and 45 self-portraits of themselves as the Sun were selected for the Justice Project Voting Sticker Project “to engage people to register and vote in the upcoming November election,” according to Barbara Chandler Allen, president and founder of the award-winning nonprofit Fresh Artists. This project was inspired by the well-loved TV show CBS Sunday Morning, which features several artful sun images submitted by artists at the opening of each segment. Forty-five children’s uplifting voting stickers, sporting the message “MONTCO VOTES!” are being given to voters at 430 Montgomery County (PA) polling sites on Election Day, November 5th!
